Cost of Natural/Alternative treatment

I've been reading about Natural/alternative treatments for endo. And a few things pop into my head...how long will it take, will it work, and THE COST!! Supplements and herbals can be very expensive, and when meeting for acupuncture for example you have a set amount of appointments your insurance will cover, and then you also have your co-pay. Once again with a naturopathic, co-pay! Co-pays don't sounds that bad until you have a bunch of them or you have a crappy insurance. My question is...people who try natural treatments...how do you afford it?

Prime example of co-pays stopping you, I had to stop chiropractic care because of co-pays. Even though it was helping my headaches greatly. Also, another example, with financial aid from the hospitals surgery is sometimes more affordable than natural or alternative treatments.

Not only that but like for me, my insurance will ONLY cover about 1-3 appts total for any kind of natural/alternative treatments that includes acupuncture and in 3 appts it wont do a lot of good and if I did find a good naturopathic doc and things were going good I would only have 3 and then what? Pay out of my own pocket yeah right! Its ridiculous!

Yeah it is fairly ridiculous. I know the first week I had chiropractic my chiropractor wanted to see me 3 times a week for a couple of weeks. Like insurance would last long at that rate!

The only way that my husband and I are able to afford alternative treatment is that my husband has a HSA through his job that pays for anything/everything that is deemed medical. I really don't know what I would do without it! My chiropractic has helped my back pain, herbal supplements have helped with the cramps, nausea,etc.. (and I know that it is the herbals because I can not take any hormonal medication due to my heart), and I have begun making some dietary changes that have helped as well.

One of the herbals that I use is "NFX" from Nature's Sunshine. http://www.naturessunshine.com/us/general/search/?q=NFX

I Love acupuncture but it can get pricey depending on where you live. Here In Los Angeles it ranges from $30-$300 depending on where you live. It took about a year before I started seeing any pain relief results from acupuncture  but it did help with my sleep issues, vomiting, hot and cold sweats, bowel movements and all the fun stuff that comes along with endo within a few months. I highly recommend it. Especially if you have sleep issues. Here is the trick you cant just see any acupuncturist. Make sure you go to one who specializes in gynecological issues.  If not your wasting your time. I learned that the hard way. My second tip is Make sure you take the herbs or teas that they suggest. I  Didnt the first year  and saw slow progress. but I took them the second year and saw a dramatic difference. My  Third tip is to look for an acupuncture school in your area. Most schools offer clinic hours at a discounted price. For about $30 you are able to see a student who is working on their masters in acupuncture or preparing for the state board. The teachers ( who are licensed acupuncturist over see the entire appointment). The appointments take a little longer than usual at school because the student throughly explains what they are doing to you and why. I actually enjoyed it and learned a lot. I like that they explain things because I feel like they are not ripping me off.  Oh and if you decide to go to an acupuncture school make sure you request a student who works under a gynecological acupuncturist specialist

sometimes your insurance may even cover you to go to the schools so then your co pay may only be $5.

HI! I saw my acupuncturist for about a year...She didn't take insurance, but it was about $79 a visit, and I saw her once a month. It was great, but I had to stop going because of the expense. I did learn some very valuable things from her, though, and when I can afford it, I will go back!
