Acupuncture and Diet for Fertility

I just had my 2nd acupuncture appointment, and I am super excited about this new approach. We may add IUI back in for one more try next month if this alone doesn't do it this month.

I feel awesome after the treatments, and my acupuncturist has some great advice about diet and positive thinking and visualization.

She reinforced the no-wheat thing, which I have already excluded from my diet, also she said that I should avoid dairy, which I had heard, but hadn't yet gotten to the point of cutting it out. It already felt like I was denying myself a lot with the wheat avoidance. In addition to the "avoids" she gave me a longer list of good foods to add, which is always a more positive approach.

One thing that she emphasized for me, is to not think about us as having tried to get pregnant for 5 years, because we simply were not well enough to conceive until my ovary was removed, and my husband's cancerous testicle was removed. Officially, she said that we have only had all the goods needed to make a baby for maybe 3 months. That sounds a lot better and less discouraging.

Another suggestion she had, which I am really enjoying, is to do belly massage every night with my husband. I think even people that aren't trying to get pregnant should give this a try, because who doesn't like a belly rub? I know my dog is a belly rub junkie, and I have become one too. We use Mama Bee's Belly Butter from Burt's Bees. It smells nice, and I think that the whole activity might be speeding up the healing of my surgical scar area.

She encouraged me to have an affirmation, which I will affix to my water bottle to remind me of it. "Love flows through me and I am whole". According to Chinese Medicine, endometriosis is an interruption of flow. Actual Aunt Flo? Energy Flow? Maybe both, I am not sure. But it can't hurt!

Have any of you considered alternative treatment? If you would like more information about what I have learned from my treatments, I am happy to share! Love to all!

PS-I posted this as well in the TCC forum, if you are trying to get pregnant, join us over there as well!

    I want to try acupuncture.

How often do you have to go? does it hurt? have you feel any improvements?

    Hi Maria,

I have been going weekly for a month, but will probably lessen the frequency of the appointments from here on out. It is extremely relaxing. The needles are so tiny that you barely feel them at all. Some places are more tender than others, like the ears, but once they are in, it might feel a little odd, but mostly a warming sensation and relaxation. I definitely feel an improvement. I haven't been as prone to stress. My anxiety level is less, and the general endo pain is much improved as well. I still have pain, but it seems to dissipate much quicker. Whether or not the needles really do stuff, it is so nice to focus on well-being in a positive and supportive atmosphere. I feel like it is working and I love it!

My experience with acupuncture was relaxing and warming, not usually painful, although sometimes needles in the hand would hit nerve endings, but this only hurt for a matter of seconds. Thanks for the info, Sara!
